That's always been a point of discussion... probably the new mice have just been updated, after all, it's been a few years.
Put a servo on them so they can be either way?
Posted about it on the Mouse Builder Facebook and like you said a point of discussion, but it has been confirmed from archive photos when the MSE in ANH was first built the greebies were straight and were damage over time.
