Looks great, and I think there's probably only two people on the planet who'd be able to tell anything was amiss, so I doubt most people would notice, too.

You've got me second guessing it. Note that oliver did chop the corners @ 45 degrees and it was a bit uneven, so it's possible that he lost some distance there, though probably not much.
It was mentioned that the top layer is probably not full bricks, but rather cut to match the skirt. I should probably replace those with roof pieces. That might also gain a little space, though, of course it doesn't reconcile the measurement.
