3D Printing Skirt
#1
After the excellent work that has been done by Kresty here is the first 3d print at 50%. Just need to find a way of slicing the file in half for a 100% print.

very cool. What was the print time on that?  Did you have to do anything to the file to print it? (kresty had said there might be some problems)

Which file did you use? I assume the .stl, but you could have converted the .obj or something, too.

I think the print will need to be heavily chopped /modified to make it fit correctly. But I can't say for sure yet as I currently only have a quarter of the skirt.
It doesn't fit exactly as planned. (At the moment)
The outer balls are 40mm pingpong balls.
It's a step closer.

Hi the print took 4 hours and 40 mins with a 20% infill for a 1/2 scale print. Yes have both .obj and .stl file for it but the corners aren't quite right as Alan says above, either need cutting down or redrawing.

The pix you forwarded from Alan are about what I'd expect with the difference between Savage's skirt and my calculations for the Greebles. I don't have the skirt, so trying to do this with the fewest iterations might be tricky.

Alan, can you try chopping Giles' print in half, then putting the corner together and seeing if that fits in a corner? If the corner bits are good, then we can just chop an appropriate # of bricks out of the middle of the model, that should be pretty trivial.

Second thought is that if we knew how it fit in 2 corners, then we could measure the actual required width.

Also, the original "stuck out" into the corner a little, so I tried to follow that. But I may have put too much brick on the top in the corner. That shouldn't impact your current problem, but it's possible the top of the corner needs shaved a little to better fit the angle.

(Giles, could the infill go lower? There's nothing structural in there. Especially @ 50% the bridges for the little bricks aren't going to be very big so I doubt there'd be much drooping of the tops. Also this probably doesn't need the # of shells of a BB-8 part)

Just FYI: 3D Builder on Windows 10 has as simple tool to chop models in half. Then you can reexport the STL. Tiny bit awkward, but it works well the couple times I've tried it.

I posted another file with the STLs, split into both halves and thirds:  http://www.rebeldroids.net/gallery/displ...hp?pid=820

Alan, how do you plan to change the skirt? We were wondering about sizes for Lara's build.

I will widen the base plan by 50mm first and see if it still looks correct. If it looks incorrect I'll scale the whole model up until the base reaches the 50mm difference.

With regards to the current skirt I have, I've taken off 3rows either end. Which appears to now fit... Time will tell next week.
Once the skirt is all glued up, it's then I'll find out what else will be required.
