R2-D2 is probably the most recognized Star Wars droid. He's an "Astromech" droid along with many other similar droids, including droids like Chopper.
Indeed, Artoo and the R2-D2 Builder's Club is what inspired SavageCreature to start this forum!

Artoo's about the oldest of the droids builder's have been working on and there are plenty of clubs, sites and resources for building Astromech droids.
We recommend starting at the R2-D2 Builder's Club at Astromech.net to learn more about Astromechs. From there you can find regional clubs and tons of other resources.
