BB-8 want-to-build thread (apparently I'm calling him BB-8)

That's amazing.

FWIW, I did some discussion about possible hamster/cheerleader/magnet/etc options for a BB-8 build, and some thinking out loud about which might work for my Lego BB-8

Ok, I've been struggling with the connections and getting the printer to behave & stuff, but I've made some progress.  STILL need details for the panels, but assembly is getting better.  The panels at least connect themselves now.  Need more connectors to make it strong though.

I have like a half dozen parts.  Most can be mirrored or placed at 4 symmetric spots on each of the 6 panels.  In other words I have to print 24 of everything that reinforces stuff.  And that excludes some areas that I don't need for now, which'll require 4 or so more parts!

I feel like I'm building an eggshell.

Also showing some of the panels, here's Panel 1.  Let me know what you think.  A few notes:

1) Simulated LED with a flashlight showing the illuminated lights.  Seems like they'll look pretty good!
2) Circle that intersects the orange ring is obviously not placed yet, should also be a little smaller.
3) Red dots are where the triangle panel buttons go.  I know how I'm doing that, but I lost the parts I was going to use.  (I swear I saw a bag of them 3 days ago).
4) Notice that this panel has the recessed track that looks like it turns or something.  I lowered the tile bit in the middle to emulate that.

If I'm missing anything else glaring that annoys people let me know, this stuff is tricky.

I still think it's utterly insane to be doing this in Lego. That aside, this really looks great! I'm impressed!

I'm starting to think so too, the recent setbacks have been annoying  Remote

It's frustrating that the static build is causing so much pain at the moment, but I think it'll get there.

I'm worried about the weight of the head Sad

First complete sphere!

Probably strong enough for static w/o Kragle.

Cat helped with the disassembly (top didn't fit perfect, so didn't want to leave it that way - meant to only take off the top, but right now it's 4 panels with 2 off.)

I guess I lied a little. It's not "complete", I still have to turn the red dots into buttons and a few other things... but it's getting there.
