Ledge on top

One odd bit I just noticed is that the "can/tools" on top are on top of a raised platform.  You can see between the top of the droid and the bottom of the cans on top.  That platform's not on the stand-alone droid photo, so it seems to go with the tools.

I was kind of wondering if the platform is used to hold the objects in place while filming?  That would make more sense if the objects were recessed into the platform or something, but they're just on top.

The tray was made by Props so like the additional details I have no information on this i'm afraid.

I was curious if it had some practical reason for existing, sounds like that answer's probably "no". Maybe it's supposed to be a high-tech scale or something. It seems like a strange prop, especially edge-on and invisible.
