Agreed, I'm not a fan of him either. The design is ridiculous. 

But then again, I wasn't a fan of BB-8 either when I first saw him but that ball has grown on me.

According to Lee Towersey, the correct spelling is D-O

Here's the one I built from the concept sketches and took to Celebration. As we all now know, D-O put on a couple of pounds since his inception-

There are a couple of Facebook pages running on him now- D O Builders and D O Builder Club
