Indeed.
Over the weekend, I made the pilgrimage to Microcenter where I planned to look for components that might be useful. I especially wanted to find gears to use with the drive motor. I only found some that work with 2mm shaft, so instead I sourced a compatible motor. It could work better (more compact, at least in the dimension that matters most) but I'd have to do my own gear reduction with the gears I found, which may not work.
The little nylon BTU rollers I ordered were also delivered, and Ive been pondering 99-99's arms. I put a second ball joint parallel with the first in my photo last time (making three sides of a parallelogram). I still think that the only way I can fit a mechanism in is to lower it. I might end up making the sole arm joint for aesthetic purposes only and attaching the arm mount a little lower to get more clearance.
Because I had the BTUs and magnets on hand, I also added the relevant details to the "dish" under the head and added those parts to the model, along with a more detailed idea of what I was intending for the drive mechanism (before I got a new motor, as described previously).
Finally, my sneaky plan to trick my brain into wanting to get back to LD-F1 seems to be working; I've been making a run at his head mech today.
It might also be partly because I got my servo tester and other servo components hooked together and played around for awhile, Now i want something to attach them to. Nothing like making servos wiggle around to make you think about them animating the actual droid.
