"Kresty's" Static Pit Droid Build
#1
Tongue
It's not mine, it's Savage's 3D model, but I didn't want to contaminate his build thread with my lame 3D print, so I'm giving it it's own thread.

I was curious how well his in-progress plans would print, so I zipped out a print at 25%.  A couple days ago I printed his head:

And today I printed the middle.  I had to wait for filament, so I ordered tan (they say "gold"), way better than gray.  It came sooner than expected (UPS said Saturday and I got it Wednesday?!?!?)

The "thumbs" aren't attached.

As you can see, the back has a bunch of support remnants that need filed away still.  I'm quite please that the hoses turned out so perfectly.  I was nervous about the elbow narrow spots, but they seem strong enough.

And here's a bit after gluing the thumbs back on and holding the head in place.  The joint where the head goes needs the pins filed down.

I think I'll reprint the head in tan.

Anyway, Savage had done a great job on the model, it looks wonderful!

And here's the "finished" droid, including some antenna.  Great model savage!  The "pin" in the hips didn't have a hole & stuff, so I cut the ends off and hollowed a little of the fork.  Same with the head, the pin got clipped mostly and I tried to carve a little indent.  It stands long enough for a picture if you don't breath on it.

My antennae were odd on the bottom. Savage & I have been having scale problems, so to rescale them I imported them to SketchUp (which has the sole virtue that I know how to use it). Unfortunately sketchup loves skyscrapers or something, so little tiny polygons in antenna.... Well, it likes to lose those.

So the bottom of my print sucked because it was full of holes.

Anyway, fixing that....
