bummer. five feet is at least a pretty hefty distance, but still.
I had made a PETG R2 dome and I dropped it out of the back of my SUV and it totally shattered. Fragments everywhere. I'm starting to feel a bit of skepticism about 3D printed droids
But there's got to be a way.

Yeah, 3D prints leave something to be desired.
Do you have any experience with fiberglass? I wonder how that compares.

That's an easy one to answer. Fiberglass is super strong stuff. If it weren't they wouldn't build auto body panels out of it. It's also not the easiest to work with and toxic stuff. And you have to make molds. It's just a much more involved process.
I feel like there's still a lot of research and experimentation to be done with 3D printing before we give up and revert to much more difficult processes.
