Paul's Treadwell
#1
I started Treadwell prior to finding this website, so I created a build log for the droid at the RPF. So I thought I would post some of the highlights here.

Again more of a show off thread than a build log, but as I update things or add to the droid I will post it here.

I started off with the plans located at the Treadwell Builders Yahoo Group. I will post everything I have to the files section once I get a chance.

I started with some oak for the base and PVC for the body.

I built the neck with Sketchup and printed it with Shapeways. If you are interested in this same neck it is available at Shapeways or you can contact me for the file. It was my first attempt to make something like this, so it is rough. The neck needs additional work to get it to look right.

The head is made of Balsa wood.

Here are the various videos I made during the build.

Seriously cool! Where do you find treads like that? (I mean not exactly, but I was wondering about droid treads the other day for tracked droids and wasn't sure how practical it was, like for R2's outer feet).

So I believe these are the actual part used on the original Treadwell in 1977. They are a 1/2 inch pitch blower belt that have been turned inside out.

This particular setup is a friction system rather than a sprocket system like a tank. Because of the size of these tracks it is very power hungry. There is so much surface area on the ground that the friction really spikes the power.

Um, savage pointed out semi-privately that I was being dippy and that he'd already moved the plans here Smile http://www.rebeldroids.net/gallery/thumb...p?album=45
