MSE Side Greebles - Jim Cook - 08-01-2017
Can anyone suggest a source for the printed circuit board for the Mouse side greebles? Just the two boards.

Without the chips/sockets/etc? - The big boards or the little daughter boards that are in some photos? Some people have used perf board. Do you have access to a laser?

For the side panels? I'm sorry, I meant do you have access to a 3D printer
They don't lend themselves much to 2D cutting. (You could cut a big rectangle from perfboard, but the heatsink fins and chips would still stick up. Some folks have made 3D printing files for the entire side panels.)The heatsink part is also kinda trivial to make from L shaped styrene model strip stuff. I started to look at making a 3D file for the sides, but I don't need it myself so stalled.

I found the laser files for the side panels (Main and daughter)... I'll probably cut from 1/16" acrylic and populate with chips and caps myself.
I've already got the top greeblies going on the 3D printer. I'll take a looksie at the heat sinks next. Building on a budget... lol

Trick for the side panes has been finding chips (if you want to DIY) that are the right sizes (14pin/16pin DIPs)…. Note that lots of Chinese chips are really, really cheap, trick is just finding parts with the right #of pins.

Ordered sockets and caps tonight. Dirt cheap from E-Bay. Got enough for 4 MSE droids. Hoping to have 1 driving in time for Makerfaire/Comic Expo. Others will be static until I can get them rolling.
I think I'll laser the chips though. If it fails, Plan B will be to order some in.

I just saw this while looking for other droid details. I had several hundred of these boards made several years back. I sold the two large boards and the three tiny daughter boards for $50 plus shipping. They are accurate -CBS that you can solder chip sockets too (or glue). Then Paul (joymonkey) had some made that we’re identical and instead of the green PCs they were black and they were significantly less expensive (but still with the Cotter team rows, letters, etc on them.) i am sure I have several sets still, but Paul’s in black and being less expensive is the way to go. I don’t know if he is on this forum or just Astromech.net. I also have many many chips, but sorting and counting out the correct chips and sockets is so time-consuming as to make it not worthwhile to purchase. So, I never sorted them. I found most on eBay in bulk and li express would be even better. 12 pin and 16 pin chips and sockets. If you are really devoted, there are 6 or. Different chip types as I recall, but I don’t have those notes handy to look. The little daughter boards are on the lower left corner of one side the is always on display when the MSE would tour (magic and myth, etc.)Hope that helps!
Oh yeah, the two strips on either side of the -CBS are likely cabinet bypass door track. They were (are, on the original) actually plastic!
